University weathers winter storm

The severe winter storm that moved through the St. Louis region closed all Washington University campuses except for the School of Medicine from 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, through 10 a.m. today, Feb. 2. The major winter storm began moving through the area Jan. 31. The School of Medicine remained open, but the Danforth, West, North, South and Tyson campuses were closed for all but essential services. Experimental cancer treatment studied

A study by School of Medicine researchers has raised safety concerns about an investigational approach to treating cancer. The strategy takes aim at a key signaling pathway, called Notch, involved in the formation of new blood vessels that feed tumor growth. FULL STORY

Relay for Life to host cancer survivors

Students from the WUSTL chapter of Relay For Life, the signature fundraiser of the American Cancer Society, will be hosting a survivor and caregiver social at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, in McMillan Café. This year’s Relay For Life event will be held from 6 p.m. March 5 to 6 a.m. March 6 at Francis Field. FULL STORY

  • Women’s basketball on six-game win streak. The No. 8 women’s basketball team stretched its winning streak to six with a pair of home wins over University Athletic Association foes last weekend. Senior Alex Hoover scored 12 points to lead the Bears to a 61-39 victory over Carnegie Mellon University Jan. 28. Two days later, junior Dani Hoover recorded the first double-double of her career with 12 points and  11 rebounds in an 80-58 win over Case Western Reserve University.
